The Columbus Blue Jackets have just announced some exciting news.
This move was prompted by the departure of Mike Babcock, which left a gap in the coaching team. This addition is aimed at strengthening the coaching staff and bringing more experience to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Recchi has previously coached in the NHL with two other teams. He was part of the coaching staff for the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2017 to 2020 and then with the New Jersey Devils from 2020 to 2022. What makes this new role special is that it's the first time he's coaching a team he didn't play for during his playing career.
During his playing days, Mark Recchi was a star, with 1,652 games played and an impressive 1,533 points. His extensive experience as a player is a big advantage for the relatively young coaching staff in Columbus.
This hiring marks an exciting new chapter for the team as they look forward to an upcoming season under his guidance.
