Kane Signs With the Detroit Red Wings

Patrick Kane recently joined the Detroit Red Wings on a one-year deal, but there's uncertainty about his long-term stay in Detroit.

Earlier this week, the hockey world was abuzz when Patrick Kane signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, offering both Kane and the team some flexibility due to its relatively low cap hit.

Trading Kane: A Possible Scenario

Insider Pierre LeBrun has hinted that if the Red Wings find themselves outside of playoff contention by the trade deadline, Kane might become a trade target.

Currently, the Red Wings are considered dark horse Stanley Cup contenders, but their playoff prospects are hanging in the balance.

While they currently hold the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, there's a risk of falling out of contention as teams like the Lightning and the Devils hit their stride.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs secure a playoff spot while the Red Wings struggle, GM Brad Treliving could consider acquiring Patrick Kane, a player they had previously pursued.

Kane's acquisition via trade may come at a higher cost, but if he performs at his best and Detroit retains 50% of his $2.75 million cap hit, a team like Toronto could add a star to their roster for just $1.375 million.
