Reports have emerged that Patrick Kane's days as a Detroit Red Wings are numbered and talks of him being moved to a contender are gaining steam.

Patrick Kane's Could Be Moved To Contender Ahead Of Trade Deadline

The Detroit Red Wings are facing a challenging stretch, losing two straight and six of their last seven games, leaving them currently outside the playoff picture as the 2023-24 season reaches its midpoint.

Despite the team's struggles, one bright spot in Hockey Town has been the performance of Patrick Kane. The star forward, who joined the Red Wings on November 28th after recovering from offseason hip surgery has made an impressive impact with six goals and 11 points in 11 games.

Kane recently stated to ESPN's Emily Kaplan that he firmly believes he remains one of the top players in the NHL.

Insider Pierre LeBrun recently reported on TSN Insider Trading how Kane and his agent Pat Brisson talked to the Red Wings about this possible reality of being moved if the Red Wings are not in a playoff position and what it could mean for the star forward's trade deadline plans.

«It's kind of weird to mention this before he's even played a game, but the fact of the matter is, this was part of the conversation between the Red Wings and Patrick Kane's camp, led by agent Pat Brisson. The Red Wings put a lot of thought and planning into this signing and part of it is, getting ahead of every possible scenario. Of course, the hope is that No. 88 gets them in the playoffs and it's a great story and that's what their focus is. But, if they fall out, Pat Brisson and Steve Yzerman have had that conversation about ok, well let's have that conversation closer to the deadline. Let's see what Patrick Kane wants.' It's possible that he gets flipped and therefore the Red Wings get an asset for Patrick who is a UFA [on] July 1. He has the full no-trade clause, Patrick Kane does, him and Pat Brisson would have a big say, but the bottom line is, this is a win-win for Detroit. He either gets them in the playoffs, it's a great story or Detroit potentially at least nets an asset from the future Hall of Famer.»

Kane's recent high-level production could enhance the Red Wings chances of making a playoff push. However, if the team's fortunes don't improve, Kane may not pass up the opportunity for another championship run.

As of now, the Red Wings find themselves out of playoff contention, emphasizing the importance of turning things around to secure a postseason berth after a seven year absence.
