Back in August, the St. Louis Blues submitted offer sheets for Oilers players Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Earlier this week, Oilers GM Stan Bowman explained that the offers were more than Edmonton could afford, leading to the team letting both players go.
Blues forward Robert Thomas was training with McDavid and Draisaitl when the news broke. Speaking at the NHL Player Media Tour in Vegas, Thomas described the moment as awkward and said McDavid and Draisaitl were clearly not pleased with the news.
While McDavid and Draisaitl had praised some of the Oilers' early offseason moves, losing Holloway, Broberg, and others due to financial constraints has been tough on the team. Understandably, McDavid and Draisaitl's reactions reflected that frustration, especially when hearing the news directly from a Blues player.
