The Edmonton Oilers have made their first trade after the offer sheets for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway by acquiring Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks.

This week, the Oilers found themselves in a tough spot when the St. Louis Blues tendered offer sheets to Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Holloway was offered a two-year deal with an average annual value of $2.3 million, and Broberg a two-year deal worth $4.58 million.

In response, the Oilers traded for young winger Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks, giving up a fourth-round pick in return.

This move suggests that the Oilers might be moving on from winger Dylan Holloway in favor of a more affordable option. The compensation they'll receive from the offer sheet is less than what they gave up to acquire Podkolzin.

Podkolzin, the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, hasn't yet secured a permanent spot in the NHL but has shown promise in the AHL. Holloway only broke into the NHL last season, so this deal makes sense as the Oilers can build a strong forward group around him.

More trades could be on the way as the Oilers look to clear cap space, possibly by moving one of their expensive veteran defensemen, Cody Ceci or Brett Kulak.

With less than 48 hours left to decide on the offer sheets, things are heating up in Edmonton.
