According to Frank Seravalli, the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly close to finalizing a trade for a right-handed defenseman, which could happen sooner than expected.

The Oilers were just one win away from becoming Stanley Cup Champions, with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl finally pushing the team over the hump. However, the salary cap has caught up to them. With McDavid, Draisaitl, and defenseman Evan Bouchard all needing new contracts, things are tight in Edmonton.

Recently, the Oilers lost both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg to offer sheets and now have to explore trades to fill the gaps in their lineup.

The Instagram account "The Mug" shared some updates, including a report from Frank Seravalli.

Frank Seravalli reports that the Edmonton Oilers have another trade lined up for a right-handed defender, and could have it completed by training camp.

They are still considering going the PTO route, but have reportedly found an option on the trade market, and continue to gauge all options.

After trading Cody Ceci, the Oilers are in need of depth on the right side of their defense, but only time will tell if this deal will come together.
