Connor McDavid was set to have the most epic bachelor party of his life just days after the Stanley Cup Finals but canceled it after a heartbreaking Game 7 loss.

Every NHL season brings excitement, but for Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, this year feels different. Just a few months ago, McDavid was one goal away from his lifelong dream - winning the Stanley Cup. After a crushing Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers, McDavid was left skating alone on the ice as his teammates headed to the locker room. Despite the heartbreak, his outstanding playoff performance earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player. In a surprising move, McDavid refused to step onto Florida's ice to accept the award.

«It was a bit of a weird time,» McDavid said per The Athletic.

As the new season approaches, McDavid reflects on a whirlwind and emotional offseason. Along with preparing for the upcoming season, he also celebrated personal milestones, including his wedding to Lauren Kyle and their honeymoon. Originally, McDavid had planned a huge European bachelor party, but his devastation from the loss led him to cancel it, opting instead for a quiet retreat to the Bahamas before getting married. The pain of coming so close to victory was still too fresh for a celebration.

«It was nice to decompress, but at the same time it was a little bit strange," McDavid said. "You're supposed to be celebrating and having a good time, but at the same time it was not that way.»

As the new season begins, McDavid and the Oilers have one clear goal: get back to the Stanley Cup Final and win. Still motivated by last season's near miss, McDavid has adjusted his training, focusing on not just improving his skills, but also preparing mentally and physically for the challenges ahead. Rest and recovery have become a key part of his routine to make sure he's in peak condition to chase the championship.

On the ice, McDavid is driven to move past last season's heartbreak. He's said that any season where he doesn't win the Stanley Cup is another missed opportunity. The only way for him to overcome last year's disappointment is to finally lift hockey's most coveted prize.

With McDavid's renewed focus and leadership, there's a sense of hope and expectation among the team and fans. This could finally be the year they go all the way.
