It would have been hard to suggest there was much bad blood between the Oilers and the Panthers in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final, with each game going Florida's way. However, on Saturday night, the Oilers showed signs of life in Game 4, and that was enough to bring the tension to the surface.
The Oilers dominated Game 4, delivering an 8-1 thrashing to the Panthers, the most lopsided victory ever by a team facing elimination in the Stanley Cup Final.
Despite the one-sided loss, the Panthers didn't go quietly. They got physical with the Oilers after the whistle, even targeting the team's star players. Both Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk found themselves in the penalty box midway through the second period after delivering punches to Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
After the game, Tkachuk was asked about the incident and didn't deny taking liberties with McDavid.
He added that both he and the Panthers would learn from the loss and come back ready to perform in front of their home fans in Game 5.
