According to NHL insider Nick Kypreos, the Montreal Canadiens have been prevented from trading for Carolina Hurricanes star Martin Necas.

Due to the past offer sheet drama involving Sebastian Aho and Jesperi Kotkaniemi when Marc Bergevin and Don Waddell were in charge, there is reportedly "no chance" of the Carolina Hurricanes dealing with the Montreal Canadiens for Martin Necas.

"As much as the Habs love [Martin Necas], there seems to be zero chance of a trade with Montreal considering the bad blood over the Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet in 2021." - Nick Kypreos

Martin Necas fits many of the Montreal Canadiens' criteria for a potential acquisition, with his size (6 foot 2) and skillset. However, despite the fit, the past animosity between former general managers seems to have halted any deal.

The Montreal Canadiens are looking to make another trade similar to the 'Kirby Dach' style, as they did with Alex Newhook last year. Possible targets now that Necas is off the table could include Patrik Laine, Trevor Zegras, or Marco Rossi.

The offseason promises to be intriguing for both teams.
