In the latest 32 Thoughts podcast episode, the insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that the Montreal Canadiens are working to get two players on the trade market.

Once again this season, the Canadiens have been hit by multiple injuries to key players. Notably, Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher are out long-term, while Juraj Slafkovsky, Kaiden Guhle, and Justin Barron are dealing with smaller injuries.

Even though they won their last two games, the Habs still need to get better before hoping to become playoff contenders. As of now, they are "in the mix", tied with three other teams in the Atlantic Division at nine points.

In the past, it's been clear that Kent Hughes won't sacrifice assets for the immediate success of the team. However, this could change soon, according to Elliotte Friedman.

The insider revealed recently that the Canadiens are looking for a top-four defenseman and a "forward with some edge".

Here's what he said on 32 Thoughts:

"32 Thoughts Podcast: Elliotte talks about the Montreal want of a top 4 RHD and a F with some edge. They have a plan for their young players and don't want to block them so any adds will have to be compatible with their future plans. May have to subtract to add. #GoHabsGo #NHL"

Friedman isn't the first one to suggest the Canadiens are interested in making a trade. Pierre LeBrun also came forward recently to say that Kent Hughes could be interested in making something happen considering the Canadiens' slow start.

The Canadiens will be back on the ice tonight to face the Seattle Kraken at the Bell Center.
