Commodore, known for speaking his mind, did it again on Monday morning, this time criticizing Laine, the newest player for the Montreal Canadiens. The former NHL defenseman, who played over 500 games, didn't hold back when discussing Laine's first appearance in the Canadiens' locker room earlier this summer. What really set him off, however, wasn't Laine's presence, but his choice of outfit.
Commodore harshly criticized Laine for wearing black-and-white spotted pants with lime green shoes.
He didn't stop there, continuing his rant:
Commodore, who played during a more traditional era of hockey, clearly didn't approve of Laine's bold fashion choice. However, times have changed since Commodore retired in 2012. Today's NHL is full of young players who express their individuality both on and off the ice.
Is Commodore being too sensitive about something as harmless as fashion? Considering his own quirky appearance during his playing days, his comments do seem a bit hypocritical.
While Commodore's criticism reflects a more old-school mindset, it highlights how the culture of hockey is evolving. As new players bring fresh ideas and styles to the game, the sport continues to change, whether the old guard likes it or not.
