In times of tragedy, people expect empathy, especially in sports, where athletes are real human beings experiencing pain like anyone else. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case, as a popular Montreal Canadiens podcast recently demonstrated a lack of basic decency.
On "The Sick Podcast," hosted by Grant McCagg and Shayne Gaumond, the two discussed the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau. Their attempt to rationalize the untimely deaths of these two players was, at best, distasteful.
Trying to relate the loss of human life to why a team drafted a certain player was widely condemned as inappropriate.
As expected, the public reaction was overwhelmingly negative, with both hosts facing severe backlash for their insensitive comments.
The episode of "The Sick Podcast" containing these remarks has since been removed from all platforms. However, neither host has issued any public apology or retraction for what was said.
