This morning, it was confirmed that former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie prospect Luke Cavallin is joining their rival, the Montreal Canadiens.

The Laval Rocket, the Canadiens' AHL affiliate, announced on X that Cavallin has signed a two-way AHL contract with the team.

Cavallin spent the 2023-24 season with the Leafs' organization, playing in 9 games for the Toronto Marlies and 24 games in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers. He posted a 3.01 goals-against average (GAA) in the AHL and a 2.95 GAA with a .915 save percentage in the ECHL.

Due to the Maple Leafs' depth in goaltending prospects, including Dennis Hildeby, Artur Akhtyamov, and Vyacheslav Peska, Cavallin had limited opportunities for development. Now with the Laval Rocket, he has the chance to earn more playing time. At 23, he still has plenty of time to develop into a solid professional goaltender.

It will be interesting to see if Cavallin faces his former team, the Marlies, this season and seeks some revenge against the Leafs organization.
