The trade deadline isn't until March, though, that is coming up quicker than you might think. To get out ahead of the deadline, many teams are inquiring about players now, so they have a good idea of who is available come March.
One of those players getting a lot of interest is Tyson Barrie from the Nashville Predators. According to Clay Brewer of Nashville Hockey Now, Barrie is getting significant interest from the Vancouver Canucks, as well as the Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are in a similar trade position this season, both teams potentially looking for reinforcements in net due to struggling starters and help on the blue line. The Leafs, who have nearly recovered all their defensemen from injury, are hoping to add a defenseman to replace John Klingberg, who will be out for the remainder of the year.
Barrie played for the Leafs for one season, 2019-2020. During that year he had 5 goals and 34 assists for 39 points. Barrie has had some injury trouble with upper body injuries over the past few seasons, but could fit nicely as a second powerplay option for the Leafs, should they choose to make a move for the defenseman.
We will have to see how this shakes out as the deadline approaches.
