The New York Rangers announced on Saturday afternoon that they have sent forward Matt Rempe to the AHL.

The Rangers are set to welcome Jimmy Vesey back to the lineup tomorrow against the Islanders after he started the season on long-term injured reserve (LTIR). In a corresponding move, the team announced that winger Matt Rempe has been reassigned to AHL Hartford.

Vesey suffered a lower-body injury partway through training camp, keeping him sidelined for the Rangers' first ten games. After fully participating in practices over the past week, he's now eligible and ready to rejoin the team.

Last season, Vesey provided steady depth scoring for New York, recording 13 goals and 13 assists across 80 games, despite logging a career-low 12:23 in average ice time. Now in the second and final season of his two-year, $1.6 million deal, Vesey's contract has proved to be a budget-friendly asset for the Rangers.

Rempe's second call-up with the Rangers this season turned out to be brief. He was sent to Hartford last week but was recalled just four days later, following two games with the Wolf Pack. The 22-year-old has played in three games for New York this season, averaging 5:26 on the ice and yet to record a point. Given his waiver-exempt status, it makes sense for him to return to Hartford, where he can see more consistent playing time for now.
