As the Rangers defended in their own zone Miller launched a puck high sending it straight into the center scoreboard. The hit dislodged one of the panels leaving it dangling from the scoreboard but still safely secured by cables. Fortunately the panel didn't fall onto the ice which could have been dangerous.
Fans & broadcasters had fun with the incident joking that Miller might have to cover the repair costs himself as a «you break it you buy it» moment.
The game continued without delay & no penalty was called on Miller. Ironically, the scoreboard may have saved him from a delay of game penalty by blocking the puck's path.
The Rangers went on to win 2-1, starting the month on a high note. Notably, rookie Matt Rempe was a healthy scratch after recently being sent down and then recalled from the AHL. Given the close score, coach Peter Laviolette likely didn't miss Rempe's presence, as the enforcer usually plays limited minutes, with his season high being 7:37 in a game against the Maple Leafs.
Madison Square Garden, one of the league's oldest and most iconic venues, has seen many upgrades over the years, including its state-of-the-art scoreboard. But it seems Miller's shot was more than it was prepared for tonight.
