New York Rangers' owner James Dolan has reportedly vetoed trades this season for a selfish reason.
According to a revelation from NHL insider Darren Dreger, the New York Rangers are in the market for a center.
However, Dreger disclosed that James Dolan, the team's owner, has imposed a restriction on the team's GM Chris Drury: he can't trade his 2024 first round pick.
Here's what he said:
Dolan's insistence on retaining the 2024 first-round pick, to ensure the Rangers' participation in the Draft event at The Sphere, means the team may have to consider using their 2025 pick in negotiations instead.
The Rangers are on the hunt for a secondary center. With Filip Chytil sidelined for the season, they're in dire need of one for the playoffs.
With the 2025 NHL Draft expected to be particularly strong, any picks from it could prove to be great assets. Nonetheless, without their 2024 first-round pick, it'll likely be complicated for them to get interesting players this season.
