Today it was announced that Ottawa Senators forward Alex Formenton was heading back overseas to play in Switzerland.
Formenton is going to be in his second stint with Ambri-Piotta after spending last season there. His contract with the team includes an NHL out clause meaning if the Senators want to bring him back they have the right to do so.
Formenton of course is one of the players from the 2018 WJC team in Canada who are being investigated due to actions taken after winning. Ambri-Piotta made a statement regarding the signing of Formenton and the ongoing investigation.
This statement acknowledges the ongoing investigation and Ambri-Piotta's right to take action with Formenton's contract if new information becomes available. For now, the former top Senators prospect will continue to play in Switzerland while awaiting to hear his future based on the results of the investigation.
