Formenton who is one of five players currently under investigation for the 2018 World Juniors incident in London has since taken a construction job in Ontario as reported by CBC's Kate Dubinski. According to TSN's Rick Westhead, Formenton is claiming $20 million in damages plus an additional $500,000 in punitive damages, alleging negligence, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty.
The lawsuit claims that Formenton did not secure an NHL contract or play in the league for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, which he attributes to his former agent's actions.
After a promising 2021-22 NHL season, where he scored 18 goals and posted 32 points over 79 games, Formenton's player-agent agreement was not renewed. The lawsuit also claims that Arnott advised Formenton not to sign a qualifying offer from the Senators worth $787,500, describing it as «business as usual.» As a result, Formenton missed the deadline to play in the 2022-23 NHL season and ended up signing a one-year contract in the Swiss league instead.
