After a second straight poor start to the season, with four years and $5 million AAV left on his contract, the Oilers finally made the big, necessary move to waive Jack Campbell and send him to the AHL after he cleared waivers.
This left the team with just one experienced goaltender in Stuart Skinner, and while Calvin Pickard is a serviceable name, it appears that right now, neither of them are in a position to save this team.
Now, the team have seemingly been linked to every available goaltender in the league, but amongst them all, there's one that makes the most sense, with several NHL analysts and insiders making that connection too.
Carter Hart, who grew up in the area has been off to another stellar start in Philadelphia, posting a 2.52 GAA and a .913 save percentage, and while Edmonton's defense would make his job that much harder, he's proven he is up to the task.
It appears nothing is imminent, as the Oilers are prepared to let Skinner and Pickard work their way through the teams struggles, but if they find themselves desperate to make a move to get this team back in the playoff race, this may very well be the move to make it happen.
