On July 1st, Pittsburgh Penguins captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby became eligible to sign a contract extension. Many fans have wondered why he hasn't signed yet. The delay has caused some concern among Penguins fans, but there's a good chance the contract extension could be made official by the team on Wednesday.
Mark Madden of the 'Madden Monday' podcast expects Sidney Crosby to sign his contract extension with the Penguins on Wednesday, which happens to be the captain's 37th birthday.
Another Pittsburgh sports reporter, Jason Mackey, also believes Crosby will sign his new contract extension on Wednesday.
Later in his article, he added, "That's why I expect something to get done on Wednesdaythe Penguins blasting out the extension on social media and the talk centered around the captain staying here, as he should."
The Cole Harbour native has spent his entire 19-year NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and will be entering his 20th season soon. The most interesting aspect of Crosby's pending contract extension will be its term. He won't be 38 until the new deal kicks in, but given his strong play in recent years, including back-to-back 90+ point seasons, Crosby isn't slowing down anytime soon and could play for at least another four or five years.
