St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg may be facing a tough road to recovery after he left last night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a serious lower-body injury.

In the game, Broberg had a collision with Mitch Marner, forcing him to exit early.

The timing is especially unfortunate as the 23 year old was in the middle of his best season yet. With nine points in 12 games he was setting personal records & ranking just below team leader Jordan Kyrou in scoring. Only months after joining the Blues, Broberg had already surpassed his previous high of eight points in 46 games with the Oilers in the 2022-23 season.

According to sports doctor Harjas Grewal, the injury could range from minor to severe. Grewal shared his thoughts on X speculating that Broberg may have damaged his MCL, ACL or Meniscus. If the injury is less serious (a Grade 1 or 2 MCL tear) the recovery time could be around two to six weeks. However a more severe injury could mean months on the sidelines.

Similar to the recent Lazar injury but not as severe for Broberg

Still, possible injuries with this mechanism include:

◼️Torn MCL (time off depends on grade)
◼️Torn ACL (5+ months out)
◼️Torn meniscus (4-6 weeks if trimmed, 4+ months if repaired)

Can be just one or even all 3

Again, looks not as severe so my leading possibility would be an isolated grade 1 (day-to-day to 2-3 weeks) or grade 2 (4-6 weeks) MCL injury for Broberg

Blues fans are hopeful that Broberg's recovery will be on the shorter end of the spectrum as his return will be crucial in helping the team stay competitive in the playoff race.
