Matthews Signs with Prime Energy in Huge Sponsorship Deal
Auston Matthews announced yesterday that he would be signing with Prime, YouTubers Logan Paul and KSI's sports drink company that is widely popular among younger generations. The deal makes Matthews the first Prime athlete in the NHL and brings a huge audience to the NHL from Paul and KSI.
The deal was teased earlier in the week by Paul and KSI during a meet-and-greet event that occurred in Toronto. Matthews is well known for his stature in pop culture and fashion, being friends with Justin Bieber and being on the cover of several magazines.
Matthews Gets Criticised for Drink Sponsorship
The announcement garnered some criticism online from people who didn't realize that Matthews was being sponsored by Prime Hydration and not Prime Energy drink.
Matthews is promoting the hydration drink that Prime has, not the Energy drink. This is an important distinction, as promoting an energy drink would not be a good look for his young audience.
