Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect Fraser Minten is making a change from the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL. The Saskatoon Blades have secured his services.
Fraser Minten had finished with 10 points in 8 games with the Blazers before getting moved. He was selected 38th overall, in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, by the Maple Leafs.
Minten's former team, the Kamloops Blazers, find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference as they undergo a rebuilding phase following a Memorial Cup run.
In contrast, Saskatoon, his newly chosen team, holds the second spot in the Eastern Conference and stands confidently as a playoff contender after completing 23 games. The Blades also boast another Leafs prospect, Brandon Lisowsky.
This trade in the CHL is occurring earlier than usual, but it became evident as soon as Minten returned from the Leafs that he could play a pivotal role in improving another team's season, not just their playoff prospects.
Considering Minten's season in the WHL might extend beyond the AHL playoffs, the likelihood of him seeing action in Toronto before the next season is diminished.
