Concerns are emerging in Toronto after the Maple Leafs' head coach Craig Berube publicly revealed what's keeping Auston Matthews out of the lineup.

Earlier today, the Maple Leafs confirmed that captain Auston Matthews would miss tonight's game against the Boston Bruins due to an upper-body injury.

Craig Berube held a press conference ahead of the game and shed light on concerning details about Matthews' injury.

Toronto Star's reporter Terry Koshan shared on X that according to Berube, Matthews has been "fighting through it a bit." This suggests that he's been playing injured for a while.

Berube also revealed that this isn't related to Matthews' past wrist issues.

In Koshan's words:

A lot of people are saying that Matthews has been in a slump this year, with only five goals in 13 games. This injury could explain why he's been struggling offensively. It's a lot harder to battle against another team when you're also battling pain from injuries.

The Leafs made the right decision by sidelining him. Hopefully, he'll be able to recover soon and come back 100% healthy to help the Leafs win.

Meanwhile, Berube confirmed that Domi will take Matthews' spot on the lineup tonight. He will play alongside Knies and Marner in what promises to be an intense game against the Boston Bruins.
