William Nylander's absence from games one and two of the playoffs for the Toronto Maple Leafs left fans bewildered, especially with little information provided by Head Coach Sheldon Keefe.

The situation remains murky, but NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman shed some light on the perplexing scenario during the latest episode of the "32 Thoughts" podcast.

"Here's why it's weird. The thing that's weird about it for me is Toronto was resting guys who were hurt. Late in the year they did not care about where they finished, they were saying we are starting guys healthy. Domi rested, Edmundson rested, even Rielly got games off, so I don't see any chance that if they would have known anything was wrong with Nylander that he would have played cause he says 'Oh I'm going for 100 points' I just don't see that.

"There's no way that they're letting Nylander play if they think anything is wrong with him."

Friedman pointed out the oddity of Nylander's absence, especially considering the team's approach to resting injured players towards the end of the regular season. Despite Nylander's desire to reach 100 points, Friedman emphasized that the Leafs wouldn't have risked playing him if they suspected any injury.

With Nylander participating in morning skates and practice sessions, Friedman suggested that his chances of returning for next game were high. However, the lack of clarity surrounding the situation leaves many questions unanswered.

"This is weird," admitted Friedman. "To me this whole thing is weird and I'm just curious to see where it all plays out. I have theories, but I just don't believe at this time of year you should guess on injuries unless you absolutely 1 billion percent know what they are."

Friedman admitted the unusual nature of the situation, expressing curiosity about how it will unfold. He cautioned against speculating on injuries without concrete information, highlighting the need for clarity in such matters.
