We don't often see head coaches call time-outs when their team leads 5-2 in the third period. However, Craig Berube doesn't do things like others do.
Last Wednesday, the Leafs were facing the Los Angeles Kings in Toronto, and the team was hoping to get its third win of the season. They retreated to the locker room for the second intermission with a massive 5-0 lead, but the Kings fought back and scored two goals in the third.
After the second goal, Berube called a time-out, which helped the Leafs clinch a 6-2 victory.

While coaches usually use time-outs when players need to rest or when they need to pull themselves together and get back in the game, it was great to see Berube waste no time before sending a message to the players.
Berube explained his decision to call a time-out on Thursday, during a press conference.

The Leafs have a history of blowing leads. This tendency must end if the team wants to reach its goals, and Berube knows it. It might be a small step toward success, but even small steps need to be taken for any organization to get to the next level. This also concerns General Manager Brad Treliving, who is looking for trade options regarding the defenseman Timothy Liljegren.
