Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving adds Stanley Cup champion forward to his roster
The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Stanley Cup champion Steven Lorentz to a Professional Tryout (PTO), according to Elliotte Friedman.
In breaking news, general manager Brad Treliving has given Lorentz a chance to join the Leafs' training camp, where he'll try to earn a spot on the team.

Lorentz won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers last season. During the regular season, he played in just 38 games, often being a healthy scratch, and recorded only three points, including one goal. In the playoffs, he scored two goals and added an assist over 16 games.
Here's the goal he scored in Game 3 of the first round against the Tampa Bay Lightning, giving his team a crucial two-goal lead with ten minutes left in the game:
Drafted 186th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2015, Lorentz spent two years in Carolina, one in San Jose, and last season in Florida. Over his career, he has played 230 games, scoring 21 goals and adding 22 assists for a total of 43 points.
At training camp, Lorentz could potentially earn a spot on the Maple Leafs' fourth line, but it won't be easy. With Max Domi likely centering the third line and David Kampf anchoring the fourth, Lorentz will need to be at his best to impress the coaching staff.
An interesting idea from a fan on X suggests Lorentz could play on the wing of the fourth line, making the Leafs' bottom line a real defensive force.
Interestingly, Lorentz, who is from Kitchener, Ontario, brought the Stanley Cup to Waterloo this summer. At the event, a picture surfaced of him as a kid, wearing a Maple Leafs jersey and posing with the Cup next to the Trophy.
