A new report indicates that Toronto Maple Leafs star defenseman Morgan Rielly is in a legal battle with the City of Toronto.
This issue arose after Rielly and Tessa Virtue bought a house and planned to change the exterior color from red to white. However, the city's Heritage Department halted the project.
The city's heritage department claims that the change from red to white would undermine the character of the property, though ultimately it will be city council that gets the final say on whether the paint job can continue forward or not.
Morgan Rielly is now the second Toronto Maple Leaf to face legal issues with the government. John Tavares is also disputing a decision by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regarding his taxes.
The CRA is disputing a claim by Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares that the USD $15.25 million the team paid him in 2018 was a signing bonus, saying that that the amount was effectively a form of salary and should be taxed at a higher rate.
Hopefully, these off-ice distractions won't impact the players' offseason training. Both Morgan Rielly and John Tavares are expected to play significant roles in the team's plans for the next season.
