Sam Bennett hints at a potential homecoming to Toronto with his latest comments
Stanley Cup champion Sam Bennett has made quite a few enemies in Toronto over the past couple of seasons.
During the Florida Panthers' 2023 playoff series win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Bennett racked up 20 penalty minutes and delivered a brutal hit that sidelined Leafs rookie Matthew Knies. Even a year later, Leafs fans haven't forgotten. However, Bennett is now a Stanley Cup champion, and according to him, those same Leafs fans are now asking him to sign with Toronto.
On TSN 1050's "First Up" radio show, Bennett shared that Leafs fans have been approaching him all summer, asking him to join the team next offseason.
And honestly, can you blame them? The Leafs have been lacking grit in their lineup for some time, and Bennett is exactly the type of player who is tough to play against.
In truth, Bennett is precisely the type of player the Leafs should target in free agency.
