The Canucks have gained attention in recent seasons as strong contenders for the Stanley Cup, even making it to the second round last season before being eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7.
In their efforts to strengthen their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, and increase their chances of winning the Calder Cup, the team hired Justin Pogge as the goaltending coach. Abbotsford's general manager, Ryan Johnson, expressed his excitement about the addition, highlighting Pogge's extensive experience at various levels of professional hockey, including the NHL, AHL, and European leagues.
Although Pogge only played seven games in the NHL, where he recorded a .844 save percentage and a 4.36 goals-against average, he had a notable AHL career with 254 regular-season games, including three seasons with the Toronto Marlies. He also gained valuable experience playing in European leagues, which has prepared him for this new role as a goaltending coach in the AHL.
As the former goaltending consultant for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Pogge now has an opportunity to prove himself as a primary goalie coach. The Abbotsford Canucks are eager to make a deeper playoff run, and Pogge's success in this role could make him a fan favorite among former Maple Leafs supporters.
