Leafs GM Brad Treliving announced that Marc Savard is joining the team as an assistant coach, completing head coach Craig Berube's staff for the upcoming season.
Savard joins the Leafs after serving as an assistant coach with the Calgary Flames last season. Before that, he was the head coach of the OHL's Windsor Spitfires for two years, achieving an impressive record of 88-35-8-5 and reaching the OHL Finals in 2022.
Savard began his coaching career with the St. Louis Blues in 2019-20 and has since built a solid reputation behind the bench. As a player, he appeared in 807 regular-season games and 25 playoff games with the New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers, and Boston Bruins, scoring 207 goals and 706 points. He was a two-time NHL All-Star and won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011.
Originally drafted by the New York Rangers in 1995, Savard brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Leafs. He knows how to handle the pressure of an Original Six environment.
