A new report has linked former NHL head coach Lane Lambert to the Toronto Maple Leafs staff as Craig Berube searches for assistant coaches.
Craig Berube has been leading the Toronto Maple Leafs for several weeks since being hired by Brad Treliving. There has been much speculation about who he will choose as his assistant coaches.
NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that Lane Lambert, former head coach of the New York Islanders, might join the Leafs soon.
Dreger added that Lambert would likely focus on the offensive side of the game, managing the forwards under Berube's vision.
Lambert's tenure with the Islanders was turbulent, with his team struggling to string together wins in the 2023-24 season. He was let go by the Islanders and replaced by Patrick Roy.
During his two seasons as the Islanders' head coach, Lambert compiled a 61-46-20 record and led the team to one playoff run. Although no interviews or negotiations are far along yet, Lambert could bring valuable playoff experience to the Maple Leafs bench.
We will provide the latest updates once the Toronto Maple Leafs make an official decision regarding their assistant coaching vacancies.
