Dyck, a highly promising goalie from the 2022 draft class, was picked 183rd overall by the Bruins. Standing at 6'4", the 20-year-old was a top starter for the Swift Current Broncos last season. Despite his potential, he never signed a contract with the Bruins.
Even after trading 2023 Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators and having an untested Brandon Bussi as a third-string option, the Bruins decided to let Dyck go. This move seems risky, especially since Jeremy Swayman has yet to sign an extension.
Reid Dyck is now chasing a new opportunity and is training with the Utah Hockey Club, which recently took over the Arizona Coyotes franchise and moved it to Salt Lake City under the ownership of Ryan Smith.
The Bruins appear to have favored prospect Michael DiPietro over Dyck. Only time will tell if this decision will pay off.
