Ferguson, 25, played for Minsk Dynamo in the KHL during the 2023-24 season, finishing with a 9-9-0 record, a .904 save percentage, and a 2.51 goals-against average over 23 games.
Originally drafted in the seventh round (194th overall) by the Dallas Stars in 2017, Ferguson was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights shortly after, as part of a deal for defenseman Marc Methot. He has appeared in three NHL games-one for Vegas and two for the Ottawa Senators-posting a 1-1-0 record with a .929 save percentage and a 2.81 GAA.
A native of Lantzville, B.C., Ferguson helped the Fort Wayne Comets win the Kelly Cup in 2021 and has also played 29 AHL games for various teams, including the Chicago Wolves, Henderson Silver Knights, Toronto Marlies, and Belleville Senators.
Concerns remain over the health of the Canucks' top goaltenders, Thatcher Demko and Arturs Silovs, both dealing with knee injuries. Demko has been rehabbing since last season's playoffs, while Silovs missed Latvia's Olympic qualifiers due to knee inflammation.
Canucks president Jim Rutherford gave little information about their statuses.
