A scary on-ice collision forced Vancouver Canucks defenseman Mark Friedman to be rushed to the hospital.

Canucks defenseman Mark Friedman has been released from the hospital following a head injury he suffered during Abbotsford's 3-0 victory over the Tucson Roadrunners on Tuesday.

According to a team update on Wednesday Friedman will continue to receive medical evaluations.

The 28 year old Friedman sustained the injury in the third period after a collision with Tucson's Montana Onyebuchi, who struck him in the head while he was skating through the offensive slot. Following the hit, Friedman collapsed on the ice and required assistance from paramedics, who stretchered him off for further observation. Fortunately, he was seen moving his arms and legs during the on-ice evaluation.

Just before the injury, Friedman had assisted on a goal by John Stevens, which opened the scoring in the final period. With one goal and four assists across five games, he is currently tied for the points lead on the Abbotsford Canucks this season.

Drafted in the third round by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014, Friedman joined Vancouver through a trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins last year. In June, he re-signed with the Canucks on a one-year deal, though he was waived at the start of the season and assigned to Abbotsford in the AHL. Throughout his six-year NHL career with the Flyers, Penguins, and Canucks, Friedman has appeared in 88 games, scoring four goals and totaling 13 points.
