The Vegas Golden Knights have decided not to include Robin Lehner in their training camp roster.
Reports from the camp indicate that Lehner hasn't been seen around:
Since Lehner's name is missing from the roster, it's safe to assume he's still a long way from returning to the game. Usually, injured players are initially listed on the roster and later declared as unavailable. If Lehner ends up missing another season, questions about his career may arise.
Lehner's path to becoming a star goaltender was unique, as he found success first with the New York Islanders and then with the Vegas Golden Knights.
With Lehner out of the picture, the Vegas Golden Knights need to look at other options in the goalie position. Fortunately, they have some promising choices. Logan Thompson had a great rookie season in 2022-23, and Adin Hill also showed potential.
In his first full NHL season, Thompson played 37 games with a 2.65 goals-against average and a solid 0.915 save percentage. Hill, on the other hand, played 27 games with a 2.50 goals-against average and the same 0.915 save percentage.
Even though Lehner is still unavailable, the Stanley Cup champions should be in good shape with their current goaltenders. It'll be interesting to see how Logan Thompson follows up his impressive rookie year as the full-time starter.
