Nashville Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault expressed disappointment with how the Vegas Golden Knights handled his departure before he became a free agent this summer.

After spending seven years with Vegas, Marchessault signed a five-year contract with the Nashville Predators on July 1st, joining a team that also added stars like Steven Stamkos and Brady Skjei in free agency. Speaking on The Cam & Strick Podcast, Marchessault shared his frustration over how things ended with the Golden Knights, saying he felt there was a lack of loyalty.

"Every year they have the mentality that you need to always get better but at the same time there are a few guys you have to treat well and that is something that is lacking in Vegas." Marchessault said.

He added, "There's definitely no loyalty but at the same time you are there to win. I don't mind that mindset. Obviously I'm disappointed that I left. I thought I've done good enough in the last seven years to deserve what I deserve, but that's life and you move on."

Leading up to free agency, Marchessault reached out to Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon and President George McPhee to discuss a new deal. However, the Golden Knights were only willing to offer a three-year contract, while Marchessault was looking for four years. After Vegas told him they couldn't meet his terms, that was the end of their discussions.

"I called (Kelly) on Friday and (George) on Saturday and when Sunday showed up nothing was budging. They didn't want to go anything long-term, they were in the ballpark of three years, I wanted four. After the next day they were like 'we just can't' so I was like all things come to an end and that's it. There were some offers but nothing to consider really. So, we hung up and still to this day haven't talked to each other." Marchessault said.

Despite how things ended, Marchessault reflected positively on his time in Vegas, where he helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2023.

"I have nothing bad to say about Vegas for the last seven years."

With his move to Nashville, Marchessault joins a promising Predators team that aims to make a strong push in the Central Division this season.
