Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is only 41 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's all-time record. Since being drafted first overall in 2004, Ovechkin has become one of the greatest goal-scorers in NHL history. Now, he's focused on breaking the all-time goals record.
In a recent interview with Sports.ru, Ovechkin shared how much he dislikes the off-season training in hockey.
Getting back into shape after the offseason is one of the more grueling parts of the game. It's essential, though, because starting the season out of shape can lead to injuries or demotions.
With three years left on his NHL contract, Ovechkin will have to endure a few more of these tough training periods. By the time he's done, he hopes to be the all-time NHL goals leader.
