Ehlers's future with the Winnipeg Jets is uncertain after he informed the team he isn't interested in a long-term contract.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Ehlers wants a change of scenery and isn't looking to sign a new deal in Winnipeg. While no formal trade request has been made, Ehlers would be open to a move if the opportunity arises.
Last month, it was reported that Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was exploring trade options for Ehlers leading up to the NHL draft.
The 28-year-old forward had a healthy season, scoring 25 goals and 61 points. However, he has struggled with injuries in the past and hasn't played a full 82-game season since 2017-18. Ehlers also had a tough playoff run, managing only two assists in five games. In 37 career playoff games, he has scored just four goals and 14 points.
Ehlers has one year left on his contract with a $6 million AAV and $6.75 million in salary. He also has a 10-team no-trade clause. As the NHL draft approaches, Ehlers is one of the notable names in the trade market.
