Despite being drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2022, Rutger McGroarty could be traded soon as reports have emerged that he is not talking to the team.

The Winnipeg Jets had a mid-round pick back in the 2022 NHL Draft, and when they landed forward Rutger McGroarty, they believed that they had found a key piece of their future. Now however, Elliotte Friedman has revealed a shocking report that he is not talking to the Jets, and with his return to Michigan, it's likely that the team will attempt to explore a trade.

Very surprising piece of news today from @FriedgeHNIC on 32TP.

«His family advisor and the Jets are not talking, but the one thing I can tell you is that I have heard Rutger McGroarty has come up in trade discussions.»

The 2022 14th overall pick had 52 points in 36 GP for Univ. of Michigan (NCAA). McGroarty had previously announced that he was returning to school for his junior year. #GoJetsGo hold his signing rights for 2 more years.

Over the past two seasons, McGroarty tallied 34 goals in 75 games, with a career high 52 points in the 2023-24 campaign showing that he's not only a fantastic person off the ice, but a major talent on the ice too. It's unclear exactly what happened between the two parties, and whether or not the team will look to move him, but with the team hoping for another playoff run in 2025, they may certainly look to explore that option over the summer.
