Carson Briere, son of Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere, has gained some major attention on social media for pushing an empty wheelchair down a flight of stairs at a local pub during his time at Mercyhurst University. The court has now decided to impose a 15 month probation on Briere as reported by the New York Times.
Briere had issued a public apology and offered to cover the cost of a new wheelchair but that wasn't enough. He was dismissed from Mercyhurst earlier this year before facing court.
During the court appearance, Sydney Benes the wheelchair owner who lost her legs in a 2021 automobile accident expressed the embarrassment she endured in March when she had to be carried downstairs at Sullivan's Pub & Eatery. She was humiliated after discovering that her damaged wheelchair was pushed down the stairs.
Despite the legal repercussions, Briere is expected to continue his hockey career in Europe starting next season.
