Similar to the playoff matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs, the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings will face off in the first round for the second consecutive year. Last season's encounter between the two teams was a fiercely contested affair that went down to the wire, with the Oilers ultimately triumphing in a hard-fought seven-game series.

This year, however, the Kings are looking to turn the tables and exact revenge on their opponents. One key factor that could swing the series in their favor is the return of their star defenseman, Drew Doughty, who was absent from last year's playoffs due to injury. Doughty is widely regarded as one of the best shutdown defenders in the league and could play a crucial role in containing the Oilers' dynamic forward, Connor McDavid.

Speaking ahead of the series opener, Doughty expressed his confidence in the Kings' ability to compete against McDavid and the Oilers. He also addressed a controversial hit by McDavid on Kings defenseman Mikey Anderson in a recent regular-season game, suggesting that the incident has added an extra edge to the rivalry between the two teams.

The puck drops at 10 pm tonight, and fans of both teams will be eagerly anticipating another thrilling playoff series between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings.

When asked what they plan on doing to shutdown McDavid, Doughty said:

"If we get a chance to smack him, we're going to do it." Doughty said to reporters on Monday.

Fans were quick to joke about it though:
