In recent years, the NHL has made several controversial decisions, and the latest one might be the worst of them all.

The NHL Unveils a Controversial Sponsorship Deal

With betting taking more and more space in North American sports, the NHL has now solidified its association with this trend. They have officially extended their partnership with BetMGM, signing a substantial sponsorship deal.

«Our partnership extension with the NHL is a winner. It enables us to enhance the BetMGM product and offer our fans unforgettable experiences built around the game they love,» said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt. «The NHL is more thrilling than ever a symphony of athleticism, teamwork, and skill on skates. We look forward to bringing our customers exceptional live experiences and delighting with new in-app content for BetMGM."

With the overwhelming presence of sports betting in sports, this move has raised concerns among many fans. They fear that it will lead to an increase in advertisements and a greater emphasis on sports betting within the NHL.

Also, the suspension of Ottawa Senators' star player, Shane Pinto, earlier in the season due to a betting-related incident has added to the controversy. Given the NHL's strict stance on players participating in betting, this latest move is viewed by many as hypocritical.
