Despite notching no goals through his first eight career games, Logan Cooley looks like the real deal on the ice for Arizona, but things could have been so much different for the young star.

A blockbuster draft day move

While Cooley ended up landing in Arizona with the third overall pick, he has now revealed that a surprise team told him they were trading up to get him just before the draft began.

I had a lot of great meetings with Arizona. So I thought that if I would get down to 3 that I'd have a good chance of going there. But I met with the Flyers about 20 minutes before the draft and I think they were trying to trade up, so I didn't know exactly what was gonna happen.

According to Cooley, the Flyers met with him just moments before the draft, revealing that they were desperately trying to move up in the draft to land the star prospect.

No deal was made

As we all know by now however, the Flyers weren't able to make a deal, as the Coyotes saw someone the caliber of Cooley as a building block of the future, and right now, that looks like the right move.

With the likes of Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, Barrett Hayton, Matias Macciell along with Dylan Guenther and other top prospects, the future is incredibly bright in Arizona, and Cooley is a major part of that, so the Coyotes are thankful they didn't make this move.
