The race to secure Patrick Kane, a player destined for the Hockey Hall of Fame, is heating up as he gears up for his NHL comeback. Following hip surgery in the offseason, Kane is only weeks away from a return.
The burning question is: which team will he choose?
In a recent article on The Athletic, Chris Johnston made a list of five teams, all contenders for the renowned forward.
It appears that Patrick Kane will remain in the Eastern Conference, after spending almost his whole career in the West with the Blackhawks.
According to Johnston, the Rangers, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Panthers, and the Sabres are in the running.
As you can see, only the Rangers are in the Metropolitan Division; the rest are in the Atlantic Division. This is quite surprising to see, as competition in the Atlantic is higher than most of the others.
Wherever he signs, Kane will change the landscape of the organization. It would be even bigger with teams like the Red Wings or the Sabres, who are on the verge of stepping into the next level.
In Detroit, the scenario of joining former teammate in Chicago, Alex DeBrincat, could entice him to sign with the Red Wings.
As for Buffalo, it's Kane's childhood team, and it's a known fact that he'd love to play there.
On the other hand, joining either the Leafs, Panthers, or Rangers would provide a lot of depth, as they're already star-packed teams.
