Hockey sticks are designed to be sturdy and withstand rough use, but they can cause serious injury if used recklessly. Therefore, it's crucial to note that any stick-related foul in hockey leads to a penalty. A player must be responsible for their actions and the safety of themselves and others on the ice.
A recent video that surfaced online depicts two young hockey players, who appear to be no more than ten years old. One player had a noticeable height advantage over the other. The smaller player, dressed in white, had been pushed around a bit and had reached their limit. When the other player, dressed in black, turned to skate away, the white-clad player swung his stick viciously, striking the opponent in the head with a two-handed chop.
Penalty or nah? Kind of looks like college hockey with no fighting and cages. pic.twitter.com/woBnDEoynE World Hockey Report (@worldhockeyrpt) April 10, 2023
Such behaviour is unacceptable and goes against the fundamental principles of sportsmanship and respect for fellow players. While passion and competitiveness are crucial aspects of the sport, players must know where to draw the line. The player in question could have caused serious harm to their opponent and must be held accountable for their actions.
