Don Cherry is a household name among hockey fans regardless of age. He has been a prominent figure in the game for many years and is greatly admired by his followers.

Even after his departure from Hockey Night in Canada following his controversial "You People" comments, Cherry remained active in the hockey community through his unfiltered podcast "Grapevine".

During a recent episode of the podcast, Cherry and his co-host Tim discussed potential nominees for the Norris Trophy, an award given to the NHL's top defenseman.

While Cherry is known for favoring physically imposing defensemen, both he and Tim agreed that Dougie Hamilton, who set a franchise record for the New Jersey Devils this season with 21 goals and 73 points in 80 games, deserved consideration for the award despite not fitting the traditional mold of a Norris candidate.

Don and Tim encountered an issue when they both couldn't recall the team Dougie Hamilton currently played for, mistakenly thinking he was still with the Carolina Hurricanes despite having left at the end of the 2021 season.

Don took to his Twitter account to express regret for the oversight and apologize for the mistake.

Tim and I screwed up on the podcast today. We said Dougie Hamilton plays for the Canes, and as we all know he plays for the Devils. Oh well. What ever team he plays for he should be in the running for the Norris but not a word about him.
