According to Greg Wyshynski, Scotiabank, one of the NHL's biggest sponsors, and naming partner of several arenas across Canada may be the motivating factor behind this reversal.
Early this week, Scotiabank announced they were giving away 5,000 rolls of pride tape as a part of their 'pride tape for all' promotion, playing on the NHL's 'Hockey for all' promotion that has been running for the past few years.
While not all will support pride tape on the ice, it's an easy, non-invasive move to show marginalized groups that Hockey truly is for all, and while Jeff McClean, the owner of Pride Tape reveals that the deal wasn't related to Dermott but rather the ban overall, it was a huge step for the defenseman to take.
Ultimately, pride tape is something that shouldn't effect anyone whether it's during practice, warmups or a game, and now, the NHL has come to their senses and smartly reversed the ban.
