Kim Weiss, the first-ever female coach in NCAA Division III history, has been hired as a video coach for the Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, according to a statement on the team's website.
Weiss, 35, transitioned to coaching a decade after her playing career ended at Trinity College in the 2010-11 season. She spent two seasons in the NAHL as an assistant coach and then an associate head coach with the Maryland Black Bears. Before the 2023-24 season, Weiss was named an assistant coach for Trinity College, becoming the first woman to coach at that level in Division III.
It will be interesting to see if Weiss follows in the footsteps of Jessica Campbell, who began coaching in the AHL with the Coachella Valley Firebirds and was promoted by the Seattle Kraken, becoming the first female bench coach in NHL history.
